SAHIWAL: A man was arrested by the regional office of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) for allegedly working as an agent of the Indian intelligence agency RAW, and claimed to recover explosive materials near Koh-e-Noor City on the Faisalabad Road in Okara late on Friday night.
CTD officials claimed that the suspect was involved in bomb-making and had been planning a terrorist attack at a public or security installation. Acting on a reliable tip-off, CTD officers Muhammad Anees and Bahsham, along with their team, rushed to Okara and apprehended the suspect after being identified. The arrested man was identified as Roze Ali Khan, son of Zar Ali Khan, a resident of Mohalla Kundi Khel, Armar Miyana, Peshawar tehsil, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The CTD team claimed to have recovered a map of the Okara Police Lines, an iron box containing an improvised explosive device (IED), prima cards, electronic devices and wires, 1,982 grams of explosive material, mobile phones, detonators, a 9V dry battery, several electronic buttons, and cash amounting to Rs2,340.
Following the recovery, CTD immediately summoned Anwarul Haq, head of the Okara bomb disposal squad, to defuse the live devices. Later, a case was registered on the complaint of CTD officer Muhammad Anees.
Sources informed Dawn that a special judge of the regional anti-terrorism court granted a four-day physical remand of the suspect and handed him over to the Sahiwal CTD. The court ordered that the accused be produced again on July 8.
HATE MATERIAL: The Noor Shah Police claimed to have arrested a man for making and sharing a video containing sectarian and hate material on popular social media platforms.
The accused was identified as Rana Irfan Ali, a resident of Arazi Rosha Shani, Noor Shah. According to reports, Irfan had posted objectionable sectarian content during the first week of Muharram-ul-Haram. The video, carrying remarks against a particular sect, was deemed capable of inciting disharmony among communities. Law enforcement agencies detected the post and alerted police.
Acting on the complaint of Assistant Sub-Inspector Amir Ishaq, the Noor Shah Police registered a case and arrested the suspect.
MURDER: A man allegedly hanged his wife, the mother of six children, following a domestic dispute in village 118/9-L.
Reports said Robina and Allah Dita had been married for 18 years and had six children. Family sources revealed that Robina had faced incidents of domestic violence on several occasions, with disputes often resolved through a local panchayat led by Hameed Shah and Abid Farid.
On the day of the incident, a scuffle broke out between the couple and Allah Dita allegedly tied a rope around his wife’s neck and hanged her from a ceiling fan, resulting in her death.
The Noor Shah Police booked and arrested Allah Dita on the complaint of the deceased’s father Zulfiqar.
SUICIDE: A widow allegedly committed suicide by consuming poisonous pills in village 96/6-R reportedly due to the derogatory attitude of her daughter-in-law.
Police identified the deceased as Shamshad (55). As per reports, Shamshad had been facing mistreatment from her daughter-in-law following the death of her husband six months ago. In a fit of rage and despair, she took poisonous pills that proved fatal.
The Farid Town Police conducted the postmortem and later handed over the body to her son, Imran.
