BAHAWALPUR: Veteran lawyer Aitzaz Ahsan has termed the ongoing ill-treatment of former prime minister Imran Khan unconstitutional, illegal and violation of human rights .
In his address to the Vehari district bar association in connection with the district’s golden jubilee celebrations, Aitzaz Ahsan lamented that Pakistan’s judiciary had failed to come up to the people’s expectations.
He added that in present circumstances, the role of the Pakistan judiciary was disappointing, due to which questions were being raised about the Pakistan justice system.
He said speedy, impartial and independent justice was the right of each citizen of the country as the supremacy of law and constitution was a guarantee of a strong state. He said the supremacy of law and adherence to the constitution should be ensured at all costs.
Mr Ahsan urged the courts and judicial institutions to discharge their responsibilities to restore people’s confidence in them. He said the lawyers had always been playing a pivotal role in safeguarding the constitution, law and democratic values and expressed hope they would continue their struggle for the supremacy of law and justice in the country.
ACID: A man allegedly administered acid to his wife over a family dispute at Chak 51/WB near Fateh Shah in in Vehari.
Farzana Bibi, in her complaint to the police, alleged that on June 29 , she demanded money for kitchen expenditure and her husband, Muhammad Shan, severely tortured her with clubs and forcibly administered her acid. As a result, her condition got serious.
On hearing her and her daughters’ screams, her neighbours rushed to her house, from where she was shifted to hospital.
Fateh Shah police registered a case and arrested Shan.
Meanwhile, at Chak 291/EB, Gaggo Mandi, unidentified suspects abducted a young girl from her house today.
According to the police, Rabia Munir, daughter of Muhammad Munir, was alone at home. Her nikah was already solemnised some time back with her Dubai-based cousin. She was allegedly abducted by unidentified persons from her house. Police registered a case on the complaint of Sughran.
