Three children die of suspected measles

TOBA TEK SINGH: Three children died mysteriously at the shrine of Hazrat Sheikh Shah Bilawal in Syedwala Police area of Nankana Sahib and authorities suspect measles to be the cause of their death.

Reports said Muhammad Rizwan (13), Nasim Bibi (12) and Aliza (7) belonged to the family of the shrine caretaker. They suffered from severe itching on their bodies and later expired.

Deputy Commissioner Tasleem Akhtar Rao took notice of the incident and visited the locality on Wednesday.

A press release said that he met the affected family and expressed his condolences over the sudden death of the children. He visited the local screening camp of the health department and reviewed the facilities and directed the Health CEO to screen other affected children as soon as possible and submit a report.

It added that the district administration had sent the blood and oral samples of other affected people of the locality to the laboratory. The results of the tests were awaited to ascertain the cause of the deaths.

MURDER PROBE: The murder of a seminary student at a madrassa in the Batala Colony Police area of Faisalabad by his two classmates took a new turn during investigation as it has been revealed that their teacher was also involved in the murder.

Police sources revealed that Qari Muhammad Rafaqat was arrested for probe and was suspected to be involved in raping the deceased child. Furthermore, police believe that on his instigation, the child was strangled to death by two of his classmates.

DEATH SENTENCE: Nankana Sahib Additional District and Sessions Judge Shumaila Yaqoob Sidhu sentenced a man to death twice and ordered him to pay a compensation of Rs1 million to the legal heirs of the deceased.

Court also handed down life imprisonment to the co-accused and ordered her to pay Rs300,000 as compensation to the heirs of the deceased.

The convicts, Mushtaq and Sughran Bibi, had stabbed to death Iqra Bibi, the second wife of the convict, and also killed her unborn child over a domestic dispute in 2023 in Mustafaabad, a village near Warburton.

ACCIDENT: Two persons died and seven others were injured after a truck rammed into a mini truck that had been parked on the roadside in the Sheraza Chowk area of Tandlianwala tehsil on Wednesday.

Police said that as a result of the collision, an unidentified man sitting on the roof of the mini truck and Aiman Qaiser (6), sitting inside the mini truck, were trapped in the rubble and died before they could be rescued.

Mini truck driver Asghar of Bahawalpur, his relatives Saba Qaiser (37), her two sons Hamza Qaiser (7) and Umar Qaiser, daughter Neha Qaiser (13) and mini truck cleaner Awais were critically wounded. They were shifted by the Garh Police to the Sahiwal DHQ Hospital.
