BAHAWALPUR: At least 10 cows died under mysterious circumstances in parts of Cholistan, including Toba Lanjani, on Tuesday.
The officials of the livestock department confirmed the cows’ death, saying that the cause of their death could not be ascertained so far.
South Punjab Livestock Department Deputy Secretary Dr Sohail Ahmed confirmed to Dawn the death of eight cows, not ten.
He said the livestock department, Bahawalpur, immediately dispatched field staff to the identified locations in the desert to investigate the cause of the death of the animals.
Dr Sohail said that according to the officials, the cows might have died after consuming certain bushes and other fodder. However, he added, the exact cause of cows’ mortality could be ascertained after a thorough probe by the livestock teams within a couple of days.
BURNT: A mentally-challenged man was burnt under mysterious circumstances when a fire erupted in the washroom of his house at Mohallah Jamali in Khairpur Tamewali.
According to Rescue 1122, 55-year old Alauddin went to take a bath in the washroom where fire erupted and he suffered burns. Rescuer Muhammad Imran said Alauddin suffered burns on 60 to 70 percent of his body. He was rushed to THQ Hospital Khairpur Tamewali where the doctors referred him to the burn unit at Nishtar Hospital, Multan.
The cause of the fire could not be ascertained.
BUSTED: The Punjab Counter Narcotics Force (PCNF), Bahawalpur, unearthed an inter-provincial narcotics network and arrested its ringleader.
According to a press release, during a raid one Asadullah was arrested and over 21kg of charas. It claimed that Asad was allegedly involved in the smuggling of narcotics at the inter-provincial level and was running it in south Punjab.
