ISLAMABAD: Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, Senator Raja Nasir Abbas has moved a privilege motion against Barakahu SHO SI Naeemul Hassan, alleging a breach of privilege and obstruction in the discharge of his duties.
In the motion , addressed to Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, Senator Abbas said the incident occurred at about 5:30 pm while he was travelling to his residence in Satra Meel, Islamabad.
According to the motion, the road at Barakahu was blocked by police through a checkpoint. SI Naeem-ul-Hassan, accompanied by a large number of personnel, approached the senator’s vehicle and, “in a rude and discourteous manner, directed that you could not proceed further”.
Senator Abbas said he identified himself as the Leader of the Opposition and informed the officer that his residence was about two km from the checkpoint. “Despite this, the SHO neither paid heed to my explanation nor extended the courtesy due to a Member of Parliament,” the motion states. It adds that the officer “continued to behave in an insulting and disrespectful manner”.
