KARACHI: Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi on Monday inaugurated an artificial intelligence (AI) summer camp for children at the Governor House and vowed to ensure merit-based admissions and opportunities for talented students from underprivileged backgrounds.

Speaking at a press conference, he announced that admission to the AI summer camp would be granted strictly on merit to any child who knew how to use a mobile phone.

He said the objective of the camp was to transform children’s summer vacations into a productive period of learning, creativity and skill development.

“Pakistan’s future is closely linked with modern education, information technology (IT) and AI. With this objective, an AI summer camp for children has been launched at the Governor House to prepare the younger generation for the demands of the future,” he said.

The governor said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision placed special emphasis on AI and that concrete steps were being taken to promote the sector.

He said the initiative would equip talented children in Karachi with the skills needed to face future challenges.

“Talented children and young people will not be held back due to a lack of resources; instead, they will be provided with equal access to modern education and technology,” he vowed.

He said the laptop scheme launched by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was a significant initiative to connect young people with modern education, while the AI summer camp was another important step towards the same goal.

The governor said today’s children would lead the IT and AI revolution in the future. “My dream is to see every child in Sindh equipped with modern education and playing a meaningful role in building a developed and prosperous Pakistan,” he added.
