BAHAWALPUR, July 12: About 33,000 deserving families will be benefited under the chief minister’s ration scheme to be launched in the district soon.

Presiding over a meeting here on Wednesday, DCO Muhammed Ashraf said the government would grant Rs7.2 million total subsidy on the sale of 66,000 kilograms of wheat flour, sugar and pulses every month in the district.

He said shops would be prescribed in each tehsil and town from where deserving families would be able to purchase ration.

RELIEF CAMPS: According to an ISPR press release, the army have set up relief camps in Cholistan desert to provide medical aid and other essentials to the people affected by heat strokes and other diseases.

The camps have been installed at Derawar Fort, Maula Dad Toba, kothi Thal, Nawankote, Khangarh Fort and other places.

The army distributed medicines, drinking water and other articles among the local people, the press release said.

WILDLIFE: About Rs50 million have been spent on the uplift of Bahawalpur zoo to make it attractive for the visitors.

Punjab wildlife, forest and fisheries secretary Maj. Muhammed Iqbal (retired) said this during his visit to the zoo.

He said measures were being taken to develop the Lal Sohanra National Park as a safari park of international standard to promote tourism.

Wildlife Director General Imtiaz Tajwar said that 24 posts of wildlife protection force had been set up at a cost of Rs80 million in the region.

FM RADIO: The FM radio station at Islamia University will be on air soon.

This was stated by vice-chancellor Dr.Belal A.khan.

He said the arrangements in this respect were in progress.

With the launch of the FM radio, the varsity would be able to air its programmes with the participation of students of all disciplines, he said.

The VC added that through the radio, the varsity’s progress would be highlighted for the promotion of higher education in south Punjab.
