TOBA TEK SINGH: A man tortured his wife to death over a domestic issue at village Soofi Di Kothi in Jaranwala tehsil on Monday.
Lundianwala police said Shahbaz Ahmad had exchanged harsh words with his wife Nida Bibi (30) and hit her with wooden bars. As a result, the mother of four children was critically injured. She succumbed to her injuries on the way to Jaranwala Tehsil Headquarters Hospital.
Police arrested Shahbaz.
SENTENCED: Gojra Additional District and Sessions Judge Malik Muhammad Mushtaq handed down life imprisonment along with fine of Rs500,000 to a murder convict.
According to the prosecution, Rana Muhammad Ajmal had shot Rana Haris Ali dead over old enmity at Chak 363-JB, Bahmniwala, in 2023 in the Gojra Saddar police area.
SCHOOL: The Maryam Nawaz School for Special Children (Center of Excellence (CoE) for Special Children) has become functional in Faisalabad.
Special Assistant to CM Sania Ashiq inaugurated the center along with the secretary and DG Special Education.
Sania spent time with the special children, saying that they were her top priority. Meanwhile, Adviser to Chief Minister Zeeshan Malik visited the under-construction dialysis centre at Hilal-i-Ahmar Maternity Hospital.
Commissioner Mussarat Jabeen informed him that kidney patients would get the most modern, quality and fast medical facilities for kidney treatment and dialysis.
Deputy commissioner Nadeem Nasir was also present.
UAF: The research work must be translated into goods and services to address the industry, food security and general public issues as a step towards a knowledge-based economy.
A service-driven, knowledge-based research and development framework will translate academic research into viable business ventures through product commercialization, incubation and industry collaboration.
UAF VC Dr Zulfiqar Ali stated this while addressing the steering committee meeting of the Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialisation (ORIC). He emphasised ORIC’s pivotal role in building a robust ecosystem of technology, entrepreneurship and economic prosperity, noting that a strengthened commercialisation framework would elevate the UAF’s global visibility, institutional rankings and national reputation.
The committee approved the establishment of the University Research and Innovation Endowment (URIE), a perpetual fund designed to provide sustainable financing for innovation and industry engagement. It will support prototype development, technology validation, intellectual property protection, industry collaborations through MoUs and commercialisation activities that generate revenue.
Other key approvals included the ORIC Grants Manual 2026, pilot clustering of HPLCs, ORIC performance review, strategic initiatives and future roadmap.
