KARACHI: Two suspected robbers were gunned down in an alleged encounter in Mauripur on Sunday, officials said.
Special Investigation Unit SSP Dr Samiullah Soomro said that they were involved in the recent killing of a passer-by woman during a robbery in Soldier Bazaar.
He said acting on a tip-off, the SIU conducted a raid in Budhni Goth near the shrine of Abdullah Shah Ashabi where in an ensuing exchange of gunfire, two members of a dacoit gang were gunned down.
The police believed that the alleged criminals were involved in a robbery, murder, mobile snatching and other crimes.
They were identified as Mohammed Peeral and Sameer alias Shah Meer.
One snatched 9mm pistol, one mobile phone Infinix —snatched during the robbery in which the woman was murdered — and one 30-bore pistol were recovered from their possession.
The slain suspects were members of a robbers’ gang and they were “hardened and habitual criminals” involved in many dacoities/robberies including murder during the robbery.
The SSP said that on May 7, the suspects had gunned down a woman, Yasmeen, during a robbery and snatched a mobile phone from a citizen in the Soldier Bazaar area. The phone has been recovered. On Feb 28, they snatched a 9mm pistol (now recovered), a mobile phone and cash from a citizen in the Brigade area.
“They had been previously arrested in robbery, assault on police and weapons recovery cases,” said the SIU chief, adding that Mohammed Peeral was not only arrested in Karachi but Thatta as well.
There were nine FIRs against Peeral and five FIRs against Sameer at different police stations in Karachi and Thatta.
