RAWALPINDI: An Airport Security Force (ASF) corporal deployed on tower duty at Islamabad International Airport died from a gunshot wound reportedly fired from his official weapon.
Zeeshan Akhtar was found with a gunshot wound while on duty at Tower 4 of the airport. He was immediately shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital but could not survive.
According to the police report, ASF Inspector Umair Hussain told the Airport police that he was on duty at the main gate in Thalian when he received an emergency call from the control room stating that the ASF official deployed at Tower 4 was not responding on the wireless set.
In response, he said his commander ordered him to immediately rush to Tower 4 to check the situation. He said upon reaching the tower, he found Corporal Zeeshan Akhtar lying in a pool of blood. In the meantime, other ASF personnel deployed at the tower also reached the spot.
The sector commander was informed about the incident who also reached there. The victim was then shifted to the DHQ Hospital in an ambulance but died.
Meanwhile, a security guard was killed after sustaining a firearm injury allegedly from his own weapon while on duty at a jewellery shop in the Waris Khan police area on Sunday.
Police, quoting the statement of the jewellery shop owner, said the deceased was employed as a security guard at the shop through a private security company.
At around 4:35pm, while performing his duty, a gunshot was heard. The shop owner came out and found the guard lying injured.
Apparently, the deceased sustained a firearm injury from his own weapon, he told the police. The injured was shifted to Benazir Bhutto Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
