RAWALPINDI: Security at special police pickets established at four sensitive points connecting Rawalpindi district with Azad Kashmir has been further strengthened and surveillance increased in order to prevent terrorism and ensure peace in the prevailing security situation.

According to sources, the police have chalked out a plan to further strengthen security and the level of alert at the four special pickets.

The police deployed at the special pickets at Azad Pattan, Bewar, Salgran and Dhan Gali will be on round-the-clock duty in two shifts of 12 hours each under the supervision of an inspector and a sub-inspector.

The police personnel have been directed to remain on high alert and keep vigilance and conduct scanning of vehicles.

They have also been directed to keep in contact with the main police control room.

The supervision of the personnel will be the responsibility of SSP Operations Malik Tariq Mehboob under the command and control of City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi Khalid Hamdani.

The police at the pickets have been directed to ensure effective checking, especially of suspicious vehicles and people.

All SOPs should be strictly followed so that no untoward incident could take place, they were told.

It has been learnt that two ASIs, two constables of Kahuta police station and 10 armed constables from the Punjab Constabulary have been deployed in each 12-hour shift at the Azad Pattan picket.

Similarly, at Dhan Gali checkpost, one sub-inspector and an ASI each with a wireless set, two and three constables, three and four constables of Kallar Syedan police station and 10 and nine armed constables of Punjab Constabulary have been deployed in two shifts.

At the Bewar checkpost, two ASIs with wireless sets and two constables from the Kahuta police station, 10 armed constables from Punjab Constabulary and three constables from Guard have been deployed in each shift of 12 hours.

At the Salgran checkpost, one ASI, three constables from the Kallar Syedan police station, six and four constables from Guard and six and eight armed constables from Punjab Constabulary have been deployed in each shift.

The deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) of the concerned circle and SHOs have been directed to perform duty as per the SOPs.

Helmets, bulletproof jackets and wireless sets have been made mandatory for the police personnel deployed at the checkposts.

The police have been further directed to remain on high alert in the wake of terrorism, sabotage and suicide attacks in different parts of the country.

The officers should not use mobile phones unnecessarily while on duty and the force should be made to remain extremely alert for their own safety.
