PESHAWAR: A court here has convicted a man for killing his wife and mother-in-law and sentenced him to death on two counts and also ordered him to pay compensation of Rs1 million each to the legal heirs of the deceased women.

An additional sessions judge, Imtiaz Ali, pronounced the judgment, ruling that the prosecution had proved its case, and this court had reached an irresistible conclusion that the accused, Wajid, had committed the intentional murder of his wife, Ms Ayesha, and mother-in-law, Ms Sajida.

The judge convicted the accused under section 302 (b) of the Pakistan Penal Code and sentenced him to death on two counts.

The court ordered that the convict should also pay compensation of Rs1 million each to the legal heirs of the two deceased women, which should be mandatorily recoverable as arrears of land revenue.

The judge also ordered that a death reference should be sent to the Peshawar High Court for confirmation of the sentence or otherwise.

The FIR of the occurrence was registered at Bana Mari police station here on April 12, 2025.

Complainant in the case was the husband of Ms Sajida, named Haji Shehzada, who told police that his son-in-law first killed his (Wajid’s) wife, Ms Ayesha, at their residential room, and later on he fired at the complainant’s wife, Ms Sajida, who was busy offering morning prayers in her room.

He claimed that the accused was having strained relations with Ms Ayesha, which was a motive for the offence.

Public prosecutors, Mohammad Usman Ali and Komal Jan, appeared for the state and stated that the accused was directly charged in the FIR for the commission of the offence.

They stated that the testimony of the witnesses and other prosecution witnesses fully corroborated the prosecution’s version of the occurrence.
