SUKKUR: Shikarpur police have claimed to have arrested two suspects allegedly involved in the murder of a police constable during an encounter near the Sui Gas Lari area, recovering illegal weapons from their possession.
Speaking at a press conference, DSP Garhi Yaseen Munir Ahmed Phulpoto said that the police had arrested two suspects, Baqir Ali Wadhiyo and Waseem Ahmed Wadhiyo, both close relatives of the slain police official, Niaz Hussain Wadhiyo who was shot dead a day earlier. He stated that the preliminary investigation into the incident had revealed that the murder stemmed from an honour-related matter (karo-kari). The prime suspect, Baqir Wadhiyo, allegedly killed the constable, Niaz Hussain Wadhiyo, over an honour-related matter involving his (the killer’s) wife, he added.
He told reporters that the arrested suspects had confessed to the crime during the initial investigation, admitting that the victim had been shot twice. The DSP clarified that although the victim was a serving police officer, the incident was not an attack on law enforcement but rather a personal dispute related to an alleged honour matter.
A murder case had already been registered on a state complaint at the Garhi Yaseen police station, he said, adding that two separate FIRs would be registered against the arrested suspects in accordance with the law.
The officer also stated that the woman linked to the alleged honour matter would be provided with full legal protection and security.
Meanwhile, according to the police, when constable Niaz Hussain Wadhiyo was shot dead whilst returning home after his day’s duty on Wednesday, Shikarpur SSP Muhammad Kaleem Malik immediately reached the spot and directed the DSP of Garhi Yaseen to apprehend the killers immediately.
They said that acting on the directives of the SSP, the Garhi Yaseen police traced and arrested the suspected killers of the slain constable and put them behind bars within a short period of time.
