KARACHI: Two policemen have been arrested on charges of killing a teenager over a “trivial issue” in the Shershah area on Sunday.
The area police said that 17-year-old Mohammed Saqib was shot and wounded by the held policemen near the junk market on Monday. The victim was taken to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK), where he died during treatment.
Shershah SHO Sardar Ahmed Abbasi said that the two policemen, Abdul Hayee and Wazir, had been arrested after the registration of a case, adding that an investigation had also been launched.
According to the FIR, complainant Mohammed Anwar said he and his brother are van drivers. On the day of the incident, they arrived under the Mira Naka Bridge to wash their vehicles. Two policemen were also standing there.
The complainant said that when his younger brother, Saqib, started washing his van, he asked the policemen to stand at some distance to avoid water splashes. However, the policemen became angry and used abusive language. Thereafter, said the complainant, the cops pulled out their guns and fired shots at him and his brother, as a result of which, Saqib sustained critical bullet wounds.
He died during treatment at the CHK.
