Terrorist attack on Kulachi police station repulsed

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Police repulsed an overnight terrorist attack on the Kulachi police station here, an official said on Monday.

He said the attackers targeted the police station on Sunday night with grenades and heavy weapons. Police personnel returned the fire, leading to an exchange of gunfire that forced the assailants to retreat.

No casualties were reported in the incident, the official said. Following the attack, a search operation was launched in the area to trace those involved.

Authorities were investigating the incident.

Meanwhile, a man was shot dead over an old enmity along the Gara Rehman Road here on Monday, the police said.

They said unidentified assailants opened fire at a man, killing him on the spot. The deceased was identified as Sifatullah Baloch, a resident of the Gara Rehman area.

Police said the motive behind the killing appeared to be an old enmity between rival groups.

The attackers fled the scene.

The body was shifted to the District Headquarters Teaching Hospital, Dera, for medico-legal formalities.

Separately, two people were killed, and as many were injured in separate road accidents on Monday, police and Rescue 1122 officials said.

A rescue official said a collision between two motorcycles near Naiwela Adda left a 47-year-old man, Ismatullah Arain, dead on the spot. He belonged to Jhok Ramzan. Another person was injured in the accident and was shifted to the hospital.

A tractor-trolley collided with a motorcycle near Chashma Awan Nullah, killing one of the bikers and injuring the other.

The deceased was identified as Usman Chhina, 24, a resident of Chehkan, while his relative, Nauman Chhina, 22, sustained critical injuries.

The injured was shifted to the hospital. Police were investigating both accidents.
