ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar arrived in Cairo on Saturday to participate in a meeting of the foreign ministers of Pakistan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye, scheduled for Sunday (today).

According to the Foreign Office, Mr Dar will also hold bilateral meetings with the participating foreign ministers and call on Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on the sidelines of the meeting.

Upon his arrival, he was received by Nazih El Naggary, Egypt’s assistant foreign minister for policy planning, research, crisis management and assessments, as well as Aamir Shouket, Pakistan’s ambassador to Egypt.

In a statement issued on Friday, the FO said the quadrilateral meeting on Sunday — the fourth of its kind — would bring together the foreign ministers of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and Pakistan to “discuss regional developments and exchange views on issues related to peace, security and stability”.

Will call on Egyptian president on the sidelines

“Building on the outcomes of previous R-4 meetings, the ministers will also discuss ways to further strengthen cooperation in areas of shared interest,” the FO added.

It said Mr Dar’s discussions with his Egyptian counterpart and the president would “focus on further deepening Pakistan-Egypt bilateral cooperation across diverse fields and exchanging views on regional and international developments of mutual interest”.

It reaffirmed that Pakistan attached great importance to its relations with Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye.

Efforts appreciated

Mr Dar also received a telephone call from the Uzbekistan Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov, who appreciated Pakistan’s efforts as a mediator and acknowledged its significant contribution to advancing international peace efforts, as well as promoting regional peace and stability, state-run APP reported.

During the call, Foreign Minister Saidov felicitated, on behalf of his president and himself, the deputy prime minister on the signing of the Islamabad memorandum of understanding.
