KARACHI: A man drowned in the Hub Canal on Friday while trying to save his son, police said.
Manghopir SHO Raja Zulfiqar Haider said that a family travelling in a rickshaw arrived at the canal to wash clothes. However, a boy from their family slipped and fell into the water. His father, Haji Nadeem, 45, jumped into the canal and saved his son. However, he drowned.
The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
Rickshaw driver stabbed to death in Saddar
A rickshaw driver was killed over a trivial issue near the CIA Centre in Saddar on Friday, police said.
They added that 45-year-old Jehanzaib Alam was stabbed and killed by a fruit vendor named Syed Abbas alias Shah Jee. The suspect was his friend.
Saddar SHO Mohammed Arshad Waraich said the victim was a rickshaw driver. He used to arrive at the place at around 5am to pick up and drop off teachers and pupils. Both friends used to have breakfast at the same place.
On the day of the incident, they quarrelled over ordering tea and the issue escalated. The suspect took out a knife and stabbed Alam. who sustained critical injuries to his abdomen. He was transported to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors pronounced him dead. The suspect managed to escape from the spot.
