PESHAWAR: Heavy rains lashed several parts of the province on Wednesday, bringing down the sizzling temperatures.

The provincial capital, Swat and upper parts of Hazara Division received rains; however, there were no reports of any casualties.

In Swat, rainwater entered houses, shops, and mosques in Saidu Sharif, Qambar, Balogram, and surrounding localities, damaging household items.

Water and mud accumulated inside a mosque in the Syed Baba area of Babuzai.

Upon receiving the information, the Rescue 1122 disaster response team immediately reached the site and launched a cleanup operation.

Meanwhile, the upper parts of Hazara Division also received a fresh spell of rain, turning the weather pleasant and slightly cold.

The rainfall, which started in the early hours of the day in Mansehra, Torghar and other parts of the division, continued intermittently throughout the day.

Rainwater inundated streets and roads in Mansehra city and its suburbs due to choked drains along the Abbottabad Road and the Karakoram Highway.

The Indus, Siran and Kunhar rivers, as well as streams across Mansehra district, swelled significantly, prompting Rescue 1122 to issue warnings to the public against going near rivers, streams and other waterways.

Landslides and mudslides were also reported from the upper parts of Mansehra and other districts of Hazara; however, no loss of life or property was reported from any part of the division.

According to the Met department, over the past 24 hours, Malam Jabba received 38mm of rain, Dir 24mm, Parachinar 20mm, Saidu Sharif 8mm, Balakot 6mm, Kakul 5mm, Pattan 4mm and Kalam 2mm.

The Met department predicted scattered dust/windstorm and rain-thunderstorm (with a few heavy falls/hailstorm) in Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Bajaur, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Mohmand, Khyber, Waziristan, Orakzai, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Hangu and Kurram on Wednesday night and Thursday.

Meanwhile, Rescue 1122 and the district administration rescued 12 tourists stranded in a swollen stream in the Sarai Salah area of Haripur on Wednesday.

An official said that the family included women and children.

Officials of the district administration and Rescue 1122, with the help of residents, evacuated the stranded tourists to safety.

The district administration has advised residents and tourists to avoid visiting seasonal streams, nullahs, and other flood-prone areas during rainfall and flash flooding to prevent any untoward incident.
