GUJRAT: The Gujranwala police claimed to have arrested the suspect involved in the triple murder, including his own daughter, in an honour killing incident.

The incident occurred in Mandiala Warraich village of Gujranwala Cantt police precincts where the suspect, Tariq Warraich, killed his daughter Faiza, her husband Abdul Waheed and his servant Zulfiqar.

Police said Faiza had contracted a court marriage with Waheed, a resident of Kali Mandi, after Eidul Fitr. They had fled the area but returned to the village Mandiala Waraich after Eidul Azha as the suspect’s family had assured them that they wouldn’t be harmed.

However, on June 12, Tariq allegedly opened fire on his daughter and son-in-law, killing both of them on the spot. During the incident, his employee, identified Zulfiqar, reportedly attempted to intervene and stop him but he was also shot dead. Police registered a case against Tariq.

A Gujranwala police spokesperson said Cantt police had arrested Tariq.In an incident in Gujrat, a 54-year-old man was shot dead by the firing of unidentified suspects at village Bhoa Aasan of the Qadirabad police area of Phalia tehsil in Mandi Bahauddin.

Reports said Khizer Hayat Gondal was present at his outhouse in the village when some armed gunmen appeared on a motorbike and opened fire at him, leaving Khizer Hayat dead.

The assailants fled the scene.Police sources said the deceased had been receiving threats from a local influential figure, Iqbal Lumberdar, who blamed that Amir Waqas, a son of the deceased, had kidnapped a girl from his family in France.
