PESHAWAR: Sarafa Zargaran Gems, Jewellery Traders and Exporters Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday announced launching of a protest movement from today (Monday) against what it described as the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) “unjust and oppressive” taxation policies and alleged harassment of traders.

The announcement was made during an emergency meeting chaired by the association’s provincial chairman, Haji Amin Hussain Babar.

Presidents, general secretaries and representatives of the jewellers’ community from across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa attended the meeting.

According to the participants, the meeting focused on devising a future strategy in response to taxes imposed by the FBR on the jewellery sector.

Addressing the gathering, Mr Babar said the trader community considered it its responsibility to pay legitimate taxes but would not accept what he termed unfair taxation measures and harassment.

“We consider it our duty to pay lawful taxes to the FBR, but we will continue to raise our voice against unjust and discriminatory taxation at every level,” he said.
