THE deteriorating state of the bridge in Hub’s Pak Colony area deserves the immediate attention of the relevant officialdom. The bridge has been overlooked for the last several years and it now presents a significant danger to human lives. The structure is evidently weak and may give way without much of a notice. In fact, the current state of the bridge itself is a notice that is being ignored by those responsible for its upkeep. The bridge is frequently used by schoolchildren, women, pedestrians and even vehicles. As things stand, there is a tragedy waiting to happen.

According to the Balochistan Local Government Act, local authorities are responsible for maintaining infrastructure and they are legally obligated to ensure public safety. Regrettably, it has become a recurring pattern that no action is taken until a tragedy occurs. By the time action is taken, lives are already lost and families stand devastated. What follows is often limited to routine expressions of sympathy or minor compensation, which can never replace a lost life. This reactive approach reflects a clear neglect of duty. Would it not be wiser and more humane to act before disaster strikes?

The matter requires immediate attention in the interest of public safety and responsible governance. The authorities concerned should inspect the bridge and undertake urgent repairs or even large-scale reconstruction without wasting any further time at all.
