SAHIWAL: Chichawatni city police have registered on Thursday a case against seven lawyers -- three of them nominated and four unidentified members of the Tehsil Bar Association -- for allegedly humiliating, harassing and torturing a naib tehsildar during the court proceedings on Wednesday.
As per police sources, a case has been registered against advocates Tajmal Hussain Chadhar, Sohail Iqbal, Ihsan Farid, and four unknown lawyers, under sections 352, 186, 506, 148, and 149 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) on the complaint of Naib Tehsildar Ghulam Mustafa.
No arrest has been made so far, the sources added.According to the police report, Naib Tehsildar Ghulam Mustafa was conducting routine court proceedings, along with his stenographer Qasim and Reader Asif, when Advocate Tajmal Hussain entered his office and sought the officer’s attention.
As the lawyer was not in uniform, the naib tehsildar did not respond, leading to a heated exchange between them.
Later, Advocate Tajmal allegedly called his colleagues, who stormed the revenue office and tortured and humiliated the officer for 10 to 15 minutes.
Local police, Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (Pera) Force personnel, and other revenue officials intervened to defuse the situation.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that Advocate Tajmal insisted on processing of some documents without “revenue stamps,” but the naib tehsildar refused to oblige him.
Following the incident, patwaris went on strike in support of the revenue officer, while the Chichawatni Tehsil Bar Association (TBA) backed the lawyers allegedly involved in the attack.
Later, on Wednesday night, the TBA passed a resolution, signed by its president Sajad Gujar and secretary general Gulfam Tabassum, condemning the incident and accusing the naib tehsildar of taking bribe and insulting the bar members.
The resolution also accused Pera Force head Mohsin Iqbal of “attempting to kill the lawyers” involved in the incident.
The TBA also gave a call of strike, which was partially observed by the bar members.
Sources say that some bar members attempted to lock the offices of some judges, but failed. Meanwhile, the Tehsil Patwari Association announced a pen-down strike.
District Patwari Association president Mr Asif demanded protection for revenue officials against “harassment by lawyers.”
BOY GANG-RAPED: A teenage boy was allegedly gang-raped by three youths at 60/5-L village on Wednesday night.
Police sources say that 15-year-old ‘S’, son of a farmer Adid Rasheed, was on his way to his aunt’s house in the village when three suspects allegedly intercepted him and forced him to ride their motorcycle.
As per the report, the boy was taken to the house of one of the suspects, where he was allegedly gang-raped at gunpoint.
When the victim fainted, the suspects threw him at a village crossing late on Wednesday night. The victim was later identified by some passersby, who informed his parents about his condition. The victim’s parents called the police on emergency helpline 15.
Yousafwala police sent the boy to the local government hospital for medico-legal examination and after confirmation of gang rape, registered a case under Section 375-A of the PPC against the three suspects on the complaint of his father. No arrest has so far been made.
