KARACHI: The Livestock and Fisheries Department, Sindh, has commenced the distribution of fuel subsidies, ranging from Rs100,000 to Rs200,000 to fishermen owning small boats.

This was shared by the Provincial Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Muhammad Ali Malkani on Thursday while presiding over the third review meeting of the Provincial Fisheries Regulatory Task Force at his office.

He said the amount would be transferred through Sindh Bank and explained that no fisherman will be registered without a Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC).

The meeting was attended by Secretary of Livestock and Fisheries Dr Kazim Hussain Jatoi, Director General of Sindh Marine Fisheries Dr Muhammad Asim Karim, Lieutenant Colonel Yasir, Major Najam from 54 (Five Core), as well as senior officials from the Board of Revenue, Fishermen Cooperative Society, Merchant Naval Marine Department, and the Karachi Fisheries Harbour Authority.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Malkani stated that the mandatory requirement of a CNIC has been introduced to provide fishermen with all facilities under one roof and to register their boats. This will ensure that registered fishermen seamlessly receive equipment and other benefits provided by the government of Sindh.

To achieve this, the department is integrating its system with the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) and has launched an online registration phase, which includes barcoded Sindh fishing permits, boat registrations, and jetty registrations. He added that the department will inspect newly constructed fishing jetties and will officially register only those that provide the necessary facilities to fishermen.
