RAWALPINDI: Five policemen of the Islamabad inspector general of police’s (IGP) squad were injured and hospitalised after a collision between vehicles on the old Benazir Bhutto Road late Thursday night.
City Police Officer Rawalpindi Farhan Aslam confirmed that a traffic accident involving a squad vehicle of IGP Islamabad Ali Nasir Rizvi had taken place. However, he said the IGP had left Rawalpindi separately in the vehicle of the chief commissioner.
According to the police spokesman, the accident occurred when one of the squad vehicles applied brakes while attempting to avoid a woman who suddenly appeared on the road.
A police report stated that one of the IGP squad vehicles braked abruptly to avoid the pedestrian, resulting in a collision involving three to four other vehicles.
As a result of the pile-up, five police officials were injured. They were shifted to a hospital in Islamabad, where their condition was stated to be stable.
Shortly after the accident, traffic police and local police reached the scene and moved the injured personnel to hospital.
