LAHORE, July 8: Responding to a report which appeared in July 4 issue of Dawn, M/S Hamza Vegetable Oil Refinery & Ghee Mills (Pvt) Ltd, manufacturers of Sufi oil and ghee, through their legal aid have released the following clarification:
“Vegetable oil and ghee are manufactured under quality control [mechanisms]. [Our] own laboratories and qualified analysts keep [testing the] samples at short intervals to maintain high quality. To date there is no complaint of any nature whatsoever from customers and our concern is certified under ISO 9001: 2000.
“According to the analysis reports, the samples obtained do not contain any ingredients which render the food injurious to health in term of rule 11 of Pure Food Rules 1965. The allegation of the food being injurious to health is unfounded and mischievous and is a counterblast for reasons better known to the public analyst and the food inspector.
“As for the FIRs,it is stated that there is no direct imputation assigned to my clients. The cases registered with the police are being contested by the respective shopkeepers/ distributor and drivers from whom the samples were obtained and the goods were seized.
“The goods seized are available with the persons to whom they were entrusted by the food inspectors. The complaints/FIRs are incorrect, false and misleading ab-initio as no offence under section 406 PPC is constituted for criminal breach of trust.”
