GUJRAT: A suspect wanted by police for alleged repeated rape of his minor niece, was killed by the firing of his own accomplices during an “encounter” in Baghbanpura police precincts in Gujranwala on Monday.
A spokesman for Gujranwala police says that the suspect, Ijaz, was wanted by Gujranwala police in a case of allegedly raping his sister’s six-year-old- daughter several times.
He says that on Monday, some unidentified suspects opened fire on a police picket.
The police returned the fire and following a shootout between the two sides, one of the attackers was found shot dead by his own accomplices, who fled the scene.
The dead man was later identified as Ijaz, the spokesman says, adding that the police found a 30-bore pistol with the body. He says that a case of encounter has been lodged and further investigation is underway to trace and arrest the fleeing suspects.
SHOT DEAD: An elderly man was shot dead, while his relative sustained critical bulletinjuries when unidentified attackers opened fire on them near Ali Chak railway crossingin Lalamusa Saddar police precincts, as they were returning home after a court hearing on Monday.
As per the police, Munawar Hussain (65) and Imtiaz Yaqoob (60), both residents of Chak Rajawi, were returning home on a motorbike after attending a case hearing in Kahria Session Court.
When they reached near Chak Ali railway crossing, unidentified attackers opened fire, leaving Munawar dead on the spot and Yaqoob seriously injured. The attackers fled the scene.
On being informed of the incident, police and Rescue 1122 teams reached the spot and shifted the body and the injured man to Lalamusa Trauma Centre.
A team of the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) also collected evidence from the crime scene. Initial police investigation shows that some old rivalry might be the motive behind the incident.
The police have started investigation into the incident.
