BAHAWALPUR: Another suspected case of monkeypox has been admitted to the Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) Bahawalpur.

The patient, belonging to the city, whose name was withheld by BVH administration, is the relative of the earlier patient from whom the staff nurse had earlier contracted mpox virus. It is learnt that the result of his samples is awaited but he is being kept in isolation at the hospital. By this, this suspect could be the third probable case of mpox , if he tests positive.

BVH Coordinator Dr Muhammad Rizwan confirmed to Dawn that the relative of the first mpox virus patient had been admitted and moved to an isolation ward at the hospital, subject to the waiting for his samples’ results from Lahore. He said that the blood samples of the patient were sent to the Lahore laboratory on Friday and the results were expected by Monday.

Meanwhile, Dawn learnt that the BVH staff nurse who had earlier tested positive and was in home isolation had now been shifted back to the isolation ward at the hospital.

Regarding the nurse, Dr Rizwan also confirmed her return to BVH’s isolation ward from her house where she had been living with her husband. Dr Rizwan claimed that she was now cured and recovered and as such was demanding her exit from BVH isolation. But, he added, she would be kept in isolation at BVH to complete the required period of 21 days of isolation, even after her complete recovery.
