CHARSADDA: A 60-year-old woman died after a boat carrying members of a family capsized in Kabul River near the popular recreational spot of Sardaryab here on Sunday, rescue officials said.
According to Rescue 1122, the family had travelled from the Chamkani area of Peshawar for a recreational trip when their boat overturned in the river.
Rescue 1122 authorities immediately responded as their diving team was already present near the site and launched operation. Rescue personnel, assisted by local residents, managed to pull all the individuals from the Kabul River.
Officials said a woman and a child were found unconscious during the operation. The child recovered but the woman was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in a critical condition, where doctors pronounced her dead.
The deceased was identified as Shaheen, 60, a resident of Chamkani, Jagra, Peshawar.
Other family members rescued from the river included Orkhan, aged two-and-a-half years, Sana, 22, Jawad, 25, Noreen, 30, and Ahsan, 35.
Rescue officials said the prompt response by emergency team and assistance by local residents helped avert more loss of life.
CONFERENCE ARRANGEMENT REVIEWED: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa EMIR Maulana Attaur Rehman on Saturday visited Charsadda and reviewed arrangements for the Sheikhul Hadith Maulana Mohammad Idrees Conference scheduled to be held at Farooq-i-Azam Chowk on June 18.
He was accompanied by provincial and district party leaders including Haji Abdul Rehman, district emir Dr Elahi Jan, district general secretary Haji Danishmand, spokesperson Haq Nawaz Durrani, tehsil emir Maulana Mohammad Hashim Khan and Farooq Khan.
Following an inspection of the venue, Maulana Attaur Rehman chaired a meeting of party leaders and discussed preparations for the event.
Addressing participants, he said the June 18 conference would prove to be a historic and memorable gathering. He added that preparations were under way and party workers were actively engaged in organising the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, district emir Dr Elahi Jan said JUI-F was committed to promoting peace, stability and social harmony in the province and would continue to play its role in strengthening these values.
The leaders also demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible for the killing of Sheikhul Hadith Maulana Mohammad Idrees.
