MIRPURKHAS: The ‘Mango & Summer Fruits Festival’ — a keenly awaited annual feature of Mirpurkhas — is not being held this year, the district administration has announced on Friday.

A large variety of mangoes grown in Sindh, especially Sindhri, alongside a wide range of other summer fruits, is put on display at the festival by almost all major growers in the province.

The announcement has caused sheer disappointment to the growers, as well as a large number of regular visitors to the festival.

The district administration has said that the event this year is being cancelled as it has not received the required funds from the provincial government.

The festival organising committee, had about a month ago held a meeting with the Mirpurkhas deputy commissioner to decide the dates and venue of the event.

It was assured that the festival would be held from June 5 to 7 in the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Mango Festival Hall, located within Mirpurkhas.

Sindh Abadgar Board’s Mirpurkhas President Haji Mohammad Umer Bughio, who had been heading the organising committee, also expressed his sheer disappointment over the cancellation.
