SANITY MUST PREVAIL

SANITY MUST PREVAIL: The conflict between the United States and Iran is not coming to an end because of lack of trust, use of bellicose language and belligerent attitude by both the countries. This confrontational approach has to change into diplomacy, dialogue and a more polite and decorous language. Just by the use of indecent and threatening language, the two countries are spoiling the situation and escalating the conflict. Donald Trump has a bullying personality and, owing to the absence of a central leadership in Iran, different office-holders issue offensive statements without getting them vetted by some central authority.

GIRLS EDUCATION: There are only a few schools and just one college for girls in the entire Chaghi district. Most of the schools are not equipped with basic facilities. Girls have to travel miles on foot to reach the college. Those living in far-flung areas cannot access the college at all due to lack of transportation. The district has no university, and those who complete their intermediate-level studies cannot continue their education. Lack of basic facilities and tribal norms remain the main barriers to girls’ education. The government should establish more colleges, schools and a university in the district with all due facilities, and raise awareness in favour of girls’ education.

PUBLIC WASHROOMS: Despite being a vibrant and densely populated city in Balochistan, Turbat remains devoid of such a basic facility as public washrooms. Even crowded places, like hospitals, markets, parks and bus-stands, do not have them. This issue becomes even more severe for women, children, the elderly and travellers. The unavailability of public washrooms forces people to resort to unhygienic practices. The government and municipal authorities should imme-diately construct clean and properly maintained public washrooms throughout the city. Providing public washrooms is not a luxury; it is a basic human necessity.
