FAISALABAD, July 7: Contrary to the claims of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) about introduction of a modern style in issuing the currency note of Rs20, some `unscrupulous’ elements have reportedly printed and circulated a good number of counterfeit Rs20 notes in the market.

Some SBP sources confirmed here on Thursday that they had been receiving complaints from various quarters, including trade circles and cash-counters of various bank branches, about the transaction of fake currency notes.

Sources at SBP regional office claimed that it would be impossible to print fake currency notes as over 20 `special secrets’ had been involved in the printing of Rs20 note.

Most of the fake notes had reportedly been supplied by the gang to dealers for using the same in currency-garlands.

When contacted, various shopkeepers told this correspondent that they had been receiving fake notes of Rs20 denomination from buyers. When contacted, the local FIA authorities said they had received some verbal complaints from citizens, but no written application was moved.

“However, we are looking into the matter and the people involved will be taken to task.”
