ISLAMABAD, July 7: A retired army doctor is running scared for his family as, he says, criminals who looted him and snatched his car at gunpoint on June 7 have threatened to kill his family if he did not pay them Rs5 million by Sunday.

Maj (retired) Khalid Farooq is taking the threat seriously as four gunmen on two motorcycles actually fired at his car near Golra Mor on June 29 but he escaped.

After he reported the shooting to Sabzi Mandi Police Station, police posted two guards at his house on his request. He has also engaged private security guards.

Officers at the Westridge and Sabzi Mandi police stations, where he had reported the snatching of his car on June 7 and the attempt on his life on June 29, said they were investigating but had found no clue leading to the criminals. “It is very frustrating that police has not been able to trace the criminals through the mobile phone which they used to convey the threat to me. We are living in extreme tension. There seems to be no law and order here,” said Dr Farooq.
