Protesters demand release of Saad Edhi from Israeli captivity

KARACHI: A large number of people staged a protest demonstration outside the Karachi Press Club (KPC) against the arrest and alleged brutal torture of Saad Edhi, grandson of Abdul Sattar Edhi, by Israeli security forces.

Saad Edhi’s mother, Saba, and father, Faisal Edhi, also participated in the demonstration alongside representatives of political, social and human rights organisations.

Young Saad was leading a humanitarian aid convoy carrying relief supplies from the people of Pakistan for the oppressed Palestinians in Gaza when he was arrested by Israeli forces.

“He was part of the international Global Sumud Flotilla, comprising more than 500 volunteers from different countries. The peaceful international convoy, consisting of 45 boats, departed from Marmaris, Türkiye, for Gaza on May 14,” said Faisal Edhi.

The protest was organised by Alternate, a progressive youth organisation, in collaboration with the National Trade Union Federation (NTUF) and Home Based Women Workers Federation.

Speakers said Saad Edhi’s only crime is that he was carrying humanitarian aid, including food, medicines and other essential supplies, for the helpless victims of Gaza.

Saba Edhi appealed to political and human rights organisations to raise their voices against Israeli brutality and demand the immediate release of Saad and other peaceful volunteers detained by Zionist forces.
