LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Aalia Neelum on Monday termed the command of Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Bilal Siddique Kamyana weak, expressing displeasure at police inaction in criminal investigations.

During the hearing of a petition by a woman, the chief justice remarked that police officers had abandoned work after the court stopped summoning the city police chief.

“Should we now summon you in every matter?” the chief justice asked the CCPO.

She directed the CCPO to strengthen his command, warning that weak supervision would lead to an increase in crime rate.

“If the crime rate rises, the burden of cases on courts will also increase,” she observed.

Chief Justice Neelum asked whether there was any law stating that an investigating officer could stop performing duties if a case had become old.

The CCPO informed the court that an FIR had been registered immediately after the court’s order in the subject matter of the petition.

However, he said, the matter had been settled after a compromise between both parties, leading to closure of the case.

In light of the CCPO’s statement, the chief justice disposed of the petition seeking registration of a case against a woman citizen. Petitioner Bilqees Bibi had moved the court seeking registration of a case of alleged fraud against a woman, identified as Farzana.

CCPO: Capital City Police Officer Bilal Siddique Kamyana says that comprehensive security arrangements will be ensured for cattle markets, traders and buyers till Eidul Azha.

According to the Lahore Police spokesperson on Monday, six approved cattle markets had been established on Saggian Road near the Sui Gas Office Shahdara, Sports Complex Adda Rakh Chabeel, Bedian Road near Paragon City, LDA City Kahna Kacha, Shahpur Kanjran and Raiwind near Haveli Markaz.

The CCPO Lahore said no cattle market would be allowed at any location other than the approved sites. He added that setting up illegal cattle markets and sale points in residential areas and along major roads had been strictly prohibited and legal action would be taken against violators.

Bilal Kamyana also directed strict action against swindlers involved in cheating citizens and traders through counterfeit currency.He ordered effective measures to protect citizens from pickpockets and criminal elements and directed officials to further enhance patrolling, picketing and police deployment in and around cattle markets.

The CCPO Lahore also instructed the chief traffic officer (CTO) Lahore to ensure effective traffic management around cattle markets. He urged the citizens to immediately report any emergency or suspicious activity to the Police Helpline 15.
