GUJRAT: On the occasion of International Museum Day on May 18, the historic Ram Pyari Mahal & Museum was reopened to public after completion of extensive renovation and restoration work.

The museum remained closed for the last one year due to renovation.

Punjab Auqaf Secretary Dr Ehsan Bhutta, Gujrat additional deputy commissioner revenue Waqas Safdar, AC Gujrat Abdul Qadeer Zarkoon and Mubeenur Rehman from Gujrat Heritage Foundation visited the museum and reviewed the restoration work.

The renovation included painting of the museum, tile work, refurbishment of galleries and provision of additional facilities for visitors.

Speaking on the occasion, officials said the reopening of Ram Pyari Mahal would help preserve and promote the historical and cultural heritage of Gujrat and provide citizens with an opportunity to reconnect with their history.

The museum has now been opened for the public from 9 am to 5 pm daily. However entry will remain free on International Museum Day as well as on 19th and 20th May, while the regular entry ticket has been fixed at Rs20 per visitor.

Ram Pyari was the third wife of Sundar Das Chopra, a contractor of Dinga Town, about 55 km from Gujrat who got this building constructed for his wife in the second decade of the 20th century.

The road that passes by the building was previously known as Ram Pyari Road, but was later renamed Circular Road and now passes by the Sohni Bazaar of pottery and ceramics in the Walled City.
