KHAIRPUR, July 4: Hundreds of villagers, social workers and political activists held a demonstration near Drib Mehar Shah on Tuesday in protest against motorbike hijacking, robberies and criminals’ chits demanding extortion from villagers.

The protesters blocked the National Highway for about two hours and burnt tyres on the road.

They said that criminals were roaming freely and committing offences due to inefficiency of police.

They said that they had informed authorities concerned time and again but no action had been taken against criminals.

SUNSTROKE: About ten people hit by sunstroke were admitted to the civil hospital and city hospital on Tuesday.

They are: Majidan, Faiza, Azra, Razia, Nasreen and Sajid Ali.

They fell unconscious due to the hot weather.

Two children Mohammad Owais and Kanwal were admitted to the city hospital due to gastroenteritis.

Three labourers, Safdar, Naban and Akbar, fell unconscious while working in a date palm orchard in Therhi.
