Mudslide kills 22

MINGORA, July 3: At least 22 people were killed when a landslide triggered by torrential rain-hit the Gahil village in the Kalam Valley on Sunday night. Mud and boulders buried three houses in the village.

Local people rushed to the site and rescued five people.

People retrieved 17 bodies of the victims, of whom 14 were identified. They are: Shazia, Shaheen, Shamim, Fazal Alam, Ahmad Alam, Humaira, Haji Gul, Riaz Ahmad, Shakeela, Robina, Bacha Hardam, Shah Bilal, Nazia and Shagufta. Identities of three of the victims could not be ascertained. The people rescued are Wajid Ali, Fazal Ahmad, Sumaira, Sher Alam and Habiba.

Personnel of the Kalam police station also took part in rescue work.

Witnesses said that people were asleep when the houses were hit by the mudslide buried under the mudslide.
