SARGODHA: As many as 20,000 sacks of wheat were recovered during raids conducted at various locations in Sahiwal tehsil as part of an ongoing crackdown against wheat hoarding in Sargodha division.

The confiscated wheat was taken into government custody, while legal action was initiated against the alleged hoarders.

According to sources, Pera force in-charge Waqas Ahmed Niazi, along with food department officials Mehr Ijaz Ahmed Sial, Muhammad Aslam and Abbas Shah, as well as personnel from the special branch, carried out raids at multiple locations and recovered over 20,000 sacks of hoarded wheat.

Officials of the food department said an indiscriminate crackdown on illegal wheat hoarding was underway and strict legal action was being taken against those involved.

It merits mentioning that only a few days ago, around 13,000 sacks of wheat were also recovered from warehouses of alleged hoarders in Tehsil Sahiwal.

STRIKE: Patwaris across Sargodha locked their offices and observed a complete strike on the call of the Patwaris Association Punjab in support of their demands.

The protesting patwaris said a summary approved since 2015 was still pending with the Punjab Revenue Department and demanded its immediate implementation. They warned that failure to address their demands would force them to expand the scope of their protest.

According to sources, District President Moazzam Jamshed Awan, Tehsil President Malik Noman Awan and General Secretary Chaudhry Muhammad Adeel addressed the protesters and urged the government to implement the pending summary without further delay.

They said the strike and peaceful protest movement would continue until their demands were accepted.

ACCIDENT: A 55-year-old woman was run over and killed by a speeding dumper while crossing the road near Doda Check Post on Sargodha-Lahore Road.

Reports said the incident occurred late on Monday night, but came to light early in the morning. Rescue personnel reached the spot after receiving information, removed the body from the road and shifted it to the rural health centre.

Midh Ranjha Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are working to identify the deceased woman.
