Rain, gusty winds end heatwave in Rawalpindi, Islamabad
RAWALPINDI: A three-day heatwave in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad ended on Sunday evening as rain accompanied by gusty winds turned the weather pleasant.
The day began with hot weather, but clouds overpowered the blazing sun before evening and light rain started falling.
The gusty winds and rain turned the weather pleasant at night and brought the temperature down to 26 degrees Celsius.
However, strong winds created problems in the inner parts of the garrison city where construction work is under way, causing dust in areas along Hamilton Road, Farooq-i-Azam Road, Gunjmandi and Jamia Masjid Road in Raja Bazaar.
The Met Office predicted more rain over the next 24 hours.
“A westerly wave is affecting the upper parts of the country. Due to high pressure in the upper atmosphere, daytime temperatures are likely to remain above normal in southern and central parts of the country till May 11,” a Met official said.
He said mainly hot and dry weather was expected in most parts of the country, while very hot conditions were likely in Sindh and southern Balochistan.
However, partly cloudy weather with chances of rain, windstorms, dust storms and thunderstorms was expected at isolated places in upper Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and the Potohar region.
“Moderate to heavy rainfall and hailstorms are also expected at isolated places during the period,” he added.
