Cleanliness plan sought for Eidul Azha

LAHORE: The government has sought a comprehensive cleanliness plan from all Suthra Punjab agencies aimed at timely collection and disposal of offal of sacrificial animals during Eidul Azha.

The government has also warned that anyone found dumping sacrificial animals’ offal on roadsides, in drains and other public places would be fined Rs50,000.

“You are required to devise, share and implement comprehensive cleanliness plans separately for every tehsil to ensure the provision of improved sanitation facilities to citizens during Eidul Azha,” sought Local Government Secretary Shakeel Ahmad Mian while presiding over a meeting of the managing directors of District Suthra Punjab agencies here at the Punjab Suthra Punjab Authority (PSPA) on Saturday.

Flanked by PSPA Director General Babar Sahib Din, he directed the MDs to ensure timely deployment of additional staff, machinery and resources according to the needs of their respective districts. He also sought taking strict legal action against individuals found dumping animal waste and offal on roadsides, in drains or at open places.

“Violators will face fines of up to Rs50,000,” he warned.

The secretary further reviewed preparations regarding waste collection points, dumpers, operational vehicles and machinery. He directed officials to complete fitness checks of all machinery before Eid and prepare special cleanliness plans for mosques, Eidgah and cattle markets. He also ordered digital monitoring of cleanliness operations throughout the three days of Eid from the central control room of the Suthra Punjab Authority.

He said that a modern technology-equipped control room had been established for real-time monitoring of field operations across Punjab. Suthra Punjab operational teams would remain active in the field continuously for 72 hours during Eidul Azha, while emergency response teams and backup machinery would remain on alert in every tehsil. Environment-friendly waste bags will also be distributed free of cost in union councils across the province to facilitate proper disposal of sacrificial animal waste.

“No negligence would be tolerated during the Eid cleanliness operation,” he warned, adding that additional resources were also being arranged to meet public expectations. Awareness drive through social media, banners and public announcements would be intensified to guide citizens regarding proper waste disposal and sanitation measures.

He urged citizens to cooperate with Suthra Punjab cleanliness teams for keeping their areas clean to ensure a healthy and pleasant environment across the province during Eidul Azha.

DEVELOPMENT SCHEMES: The pace of ongoing development works across Punjab has been accelerated so as to complete all schemes by June 30.

A meeting regarding the ongoing development projects of the current financial year was held under the chairmanship of Provincial Minister for Housing and Urban Development Bilal Yasin.

The Housing special secretary, additional secretary technical, and project directors briefed the meeting on the current progress of the projects. All departments were directed to submit daily performance reports.

Minister Yasin stated that working hours for development projects had been extended, and work was continuing rapidly during both day and night shifts. The provincial minister set a target to complete the department’s ongoing projects by June 30.

He further stated that projects in all districts would be strictly monitored and that there was no room for slow performance. He also directed that road construction and park restoration projects be completed on a priority basis before Muharram.

The minister said that in view of the severe heat, no compromise would be made on the targets for the restoration of filtration plants. “The early completion of two major projects in the provincial capital — the restoration of the Railway Station and the expansion project of Data Darbar has also been declared a top priority,” he said.
