Preliminary work begins on Vehari medical college
BAHAWALPUR: The administration of Vehari, under the directive of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, has taken in hand the preliminary process of establishing a medical college under the proposed name of `Kulsoom Nawaz Medical College’ in Vehari.
In this connection, a high-level meeting was held in Vehari under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Khalid Javed Goraya on Saturday.
According to an official handout, the meeting was attended by PML-N MNA Begum Tehmina Daultana, Nishtar Medical University Multan Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mehnaz Khakwani, Medical Superintendent of Nishtar Hospital Dr Rao Amjad Ali Khan, Dr Fahad Wahead, Chief Executive Officer of District Health Authority Vehari, and Dr Ahmed Nawaz, MS of Vahari DHQ Hospital.
The meeting examined the availability of two sites for the construction of the building, preparation of its feasibility report and other technical aspects .
It will be named after Kulsoom Nawaz
NMU VC Prof Dr Khakwani presented her proposals and action plan. She endorsed both proposed sites for the construction of the college building.
Speaking on the occasion, MNA Daultana stressed the need to expedite measures for the opening of the medical college. She thanked the Punjab CM for the approval of of the medical college in Vehari.
Nishtar Hospital MS Dr Rao Amjad also shed light on technical aspects of the project.
Dawn learnt that the demand for the establishment of a medical college in Vehari was submitted by Daultana to PML-N chief Mian Muhammad Nawaz Shari when he visited Vehari along with Maryam Nawaz before the 2024 parliamentary election.
Both father and daughter had promised to build the hospital if the PML-N came into power.
PARK: The Fareed Park in Satellite Town commercial area, after its closure for over a month for renovation, was opened on Saturday night at a colourful ceremony. The main attraction for the people was the national flag hoisted on a 120-foot pole.
