LAHORE: The Multan district administration on Saturday approved five cattle sale points in and around the city ahead of Eidul Azha.

According to a notification issued by Deputy Commissioner Nauman Siddique, temporary cattle markets would be established in Fatima Jinnah Town, Jaiswant Garh, Shujaabad and Jalalpur Pirwala. The cattle market and camel market at Jaiswant Garh have also been included among the approved sale points.

In Shujaabad, a temporary cattle sale point was approved near the Saleem Shah Petroleum Centre, while in Jalalpur Pirwala a market would be set up on the Multan Road opposite the Virtual University.

The deputy commissioner directed the relevant departments to ensure cleanliness, security arrangements, traffic management and provision of basic facilities at the markets. He ordered the availability of clean drinking water, lighting, drainage and other essential services for traders and visitors.

The district administration also decided to launch a crackdown on illegal cattle markets and unauthorised sale points. Assistant commissioners, Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (Pera) officials and other departments have been instructed to take immediate action against violations.

DC Siddique said the provision of safe, organised and well-facilitated cattle markets for citizens remained the administration’s top priority.

Meanwhile, a meeting chaired by Multan Division Commissioner Aamir Karim Khan reviewed arrangements for Eid cleanliness operations in the division. He directed the Multan Waste Management Company (MWMC) to ensure sanitation during the three-day festival.

During the meeting, MWMC Chief Executive Officer Zulfiqar Ahmad briefed participants on the company’s special sanitation plan for Eidul Azha.

The commissioner said a zero-tolerance policy would be enforced to provide citizens with an environment free from animal waste and offal during Eid days.

He announced that special complaint camps would be established under the Suthra Punjab campaign throughout the three days of Eid to address public complaints.

Mr Khan said 6.7 million biodegradable bags would be distributed one week before Eid for the collection and safe disposal of sacrificial waste.

He also directed officials to complete preparations of special trenches for the disposal of offal and ordered the immediate hiring of additional machinery and workforce for the sanitation operation.

The commissioner tasked the waste management company with finalising operational plans with contractors without delay and directed authorities to form special monitoring teams to supervise cleanliness activities during Eidul Azha.

The MWMC CEO said a control room would remain operational throughout Eid to ensure timely sanitation services and address complaints from residents.
