CCD constable dies in firing by criminals in Gujranwala

GUJRAT: An official of the Crime Control Department (CCD) lost his life in firing by some hardened criminals in Jalalpur Jattan city police precincts on Thursday.

A senior official of Gujranwala CCD police said constable Fiaz Shah had been posted in Jalalpur Jattan circle and was tasked with gathering intelligence information about some hardened criminals of the area whereas another team was following him at some distance.

He said the group of criminals spotted the CCD official coming into the area, opened fire at Fiaz, leaving him critically injured.

The injured cop later succumbed to the bullet injuries while being shifted to the hospital whereas the criminals fled the scene.

The CCD and Gujrat district police have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace and arrest the suspects.

Punjab CCD head Sohail Zafar Chatha took notice of the incident and directed the respective CCD police to arrest the suspects without any delay.

Gujranwala CCD regional officer SSP Rizwan Tariq and other senior officials also reached the scene.

A team of Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) also reached to collect the evidence from the crime scene.

The body of the cop was shifted to Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Teaching Hospital.

A resident of Jalalpur Jattan city, the constable is survived by a widow and three children, including a five-year-old boy and a one-month-old daughter.

Police have started the investigation as the case is yet to be registered.
