Sharp rise in milk, yoghurt prices in Rawalpindi
RAWALPINDI: Fresh Milk Association has increased the prices of milk and yoghurt in the garrison city to Rs250 per litre and Rs280 per kilogram, respectively.
After the new prices were issued, the price of milk per litre increased to Rs250, and the price of yoghurt per kilogram increased to Rs280.
Thus, the prices of milk and yoghurt have been increased by Rs30 and Rs40 per kilogram, respectively, while the official rates of milk per litre of Rs190 have been increased by Rs60 per litre. Despite the sudden increase, the administration and the relevant institutions have maintained a mysterious silence.
On the other hand, citizens expressed concern over the sharp increase in milk prices and said that milk is already scarce in the city, and the increase in the prices of milk containing chemicals sold in the city, with the connivance of the relevant authorities, is strange.
According to the new rate list issued by the association’s President Malik Waqar and General Secretary Chaudhry Khalid, this increase has been made in consultation with dairy farmers, in which the farmer’s share will be 70 per cent and the shopkeeper’s 30 per cent.
The residents have termed the administration’s silence on the increase in milk prices as complicity and claimed that the Food Authority, Health Department and District Administration should first ensure the supply of milk.
