LAHORE, July 1: The Lahore Racing Season 2006-7 starts off with a six event card in the day-night action at Lahore Summer Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.

With the provincial metropolis city of Lahore already in the grip of scorching summer there may not be a big gathering of race-fans on the opening day as was the case last Sunday to bid adieu to the season gone by.

The feature event, the Vehari Plate, a class IV division II and III to be contested over 1100 metres has eleven runners.

Of them Top Cat on recent form and Tuman Khan on his old form are the potential candidates to claim the honours.

The bay filly from Re-Play-out-of Princess Rukhtas, who was beaten a fortnight ago enjoys handicap advantage.

This will be the sixth and last race of the day.

First Look, Quwat and Chill are the pick of 18 strong field for the fifth and supporting event to be gone over 1100 metres. On classification Quwat and Chill are no patch on First Look.

Quwat, although handicapped harshly, after his first win , may give a good account of himself before bowing out with Chill.

Quwat is running under appeal for revision of weight assigned in the handicap.

On current form Charismatic and Julia Robert stands out among the eleven and 12 runners drawn for the fourth and third race. They should win their respective engagements.

High Hope beaten to second place on Sunday last should make amends and win the opener this time. Remember You, Madam Lorina and Shadow Snatcher may put up a fight to make their presence felt in the field of 11 runners.

Crystal Heart, Rana Choice, Ministry and Noor should fight for the honours in the second race comprising 16 runners, if there are no last-minute withdrawals.

All races will be contested over the sprinting distance of 1100 metres.

The first race will be held at 5.30pm.
