SIALKOT, July 1: Five convicted of gang-raping a married woman will be hanged in the district jail on July 12.
Jail superintendent Intizar Wali and deputy superintendent Abdul Razzaq Niazi told journalists here on Saturday that a local court had issued their black warrants after the rejection of their mercy appeals by the president.
Convicts — Mushtaq Ahmad alias Pappu, Shehzad Gulzar, Yousaf, Abdul Jabbar and Iftikhar Ali had gang-raped trader Boota’s wife during a dacoity in Shahabpura, Daska, on Aug 19, 1997. The dacoits-cum-rapists later escaped after collecting valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees. — Correspondent
