United Nations Secretary General António Guterres has said that the ocean must be “a zone of peace and cooperation – not confrontation or coercion”.

In a post on the social media platform X, he said, “At sea as on land, the force of law must always prevail over the law of force.”

He further said, “We must keep international waterways open, lawful & secure.”
