SAHIWAL: Officials of the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) on Monday arrested a police sub-inspector for allegedly accepting a Rs30,000 bribe from a complainant.

Report said three youths had been nominated in a first information report under Sections 496 and 375 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) at Saddar Police Station, Chichawatni. Sub-Inspector Muhammad Ghaffar was the investigating officer.

During the investigation, one suspect, Usman, was released, while the remaining two, Yasin and Afzal, were sent to jail on judicial remand. Later, a compromise was reached between the complainant and the accused. It is alleged that SI Ghaffar demanded Rs30,000 from Allah Waris for forwarding the compromise deed (missal) to the trial court.

Allah Waris reported the matter to ACE Circle Inspector Sohaib Qasir. Acting on the complaint, the ACE team, along with a magistrate, conducted a raid and arrested the officer red-handed, recovering marked currency notes from his possession.

A case has been registered against the suspect under Section 161 of the PPC and Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.

INJURED: A girl was shot at and injured by unidentified dacoits after she resisted a robbery attempt in village 22/14-L on Sunday night.

Reports said three armed men entered the house of agriculturist Ghulam Abbas while his wife, Haleema Bibi, and daughter, Naheed Abbas, were sleeping in the courtyard. The suspects woke them and demanded keys to the house.

When the mother and daughter resisted, the intruders threatened them. Their cries alerted neighbours, who called the police. As the suspects attempted to escape by scaling the boundary wall, Naheed reportedly grabbed one of them by the leg. In response, another suspect opened fire. The injured girl fell onto the ground while the attackers managed their escape under the cover of darkness.

Naheed was shifted to Sahiwal Teaching Hospital, where doctors later declared her condition out of danger. Shah Kot police have registered a case under Sections 324 and 34 of the PPC on the complaint of her father. No arrests have been made so far.
