United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres says global military spending soared to $2.7 trillion last year, which is 13 times more than all development aid globally.

Addressing a UN conference on reviewing the nuclear non-proliferation treaty, he adds that the number of nuclear warheads is “on the rise” for the first time in decades.
