Mutilated body of missing teacher found in field

SAHIWAL:Mutilated body of a senior female schoolteacher, who had gone missing on April 21, was found dumped, 25 kilometer away from her home, near 34/SP village of Pakpattan tehsil.

The teacher, Rehana Akhtar (55), a resident of Hasan Pura, Pakpattan, who was also acting as Deputy Superintendent at the intermediate exam centre at the Government Girls High School, Chak Badian, had gone missing after she left home to visit a bank to collect the examination material.

After her family members failed to trace her on their own, her brother Umar Draz lodged a complaint (FIR NO 341/26) with Pakpattan City Police Station, under Section 365 of the PPC, naming a police constable, Zahid Sukhera, the victim’s daughter-in -law Rehana Yasin and her brother Asif as suspects. About the crime motive, the complainant said in the FIR that the suspects wanted to grab a house owned by the victim.

Meanwhile, on April 21, Rang Shah police received a call from locals that mutilated body of a woman was found in a maize field, owned by a farmer, Jalal Din, near Chak 34/SP.

Acting on the call, Sub-Inspector Shoukat Ali and his team rushed to the scene, where forensic experts confirmed the body carried torture marks and acid burns, which showed that the killer(s) wanted to confuse police about the victim’s identity.

Police also recovered an empty gallon with traces of acid, near the body.

After forensic and crime scene analyses of the crime scene the body was moved to the Arifwala Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital, by a Rescue 1122 ambulance for the postmortem examination.

Later, a murder case (FIR No 316/26) was registered under sections 302 and 34 of the PPC against unknown person(s) on the complaint of Rang Shah Police Sub Inspector Shoukat Ali.

Finally, the victim’s family was traced through collaborative efforts of Rang Shah and Pakpattan city police stations. The victim’s son and daughter identified the bodythrough the clothes and a ring.

Pakpattan police immediately arrested the victim’s daughter-in-law and her brother, while Zahid Sukhera managed to flee, along with his wife and two sons.

Pakpattan DPO Javed Chadhar says that the police are investigating.

Official sources say that the police have identified Constable Zahid Sukhera, a wireless operator with Pakpattan city police, as the prime suspect.

The victim’s family alleges that Zahid, along with Asif and Rehana Yasin wanted to grab the victim’s house, where the constable had been living, along with his family, as a tenant.

They also allege that Zahid had been harassing the victim and had even attempted to rape in the past, but the matter was not reported to police. He had also been delaying the house rent, and was not ready to vacate the place.

DPO Chadhar told Dawn that police have gathered information about Zahid from the department’s database and are conducting raids for his arrest.

He says that data from Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) camera is also being used to trace the killer.

Umer Daraz, the victim’s brother, told Dawn on phone that after the postmortem examination, her sister has been buried in Pir Sultan graveyard in Pakpattan city on Thursday.

ARRESTED: Ghaziabad police arrested a man posing as a polio campaign checking officer after he allegedly harassed paramedics at Maryam Nawaz Health Clinic at Chak 30/11-L.

According to reports, the suspect introduced himself as a polio campaign inspector and demanded vaccination records and other patients from the female doctor and paramedics on duty. His behaviour was described as rude and harassing.

The clinic in-charge, Nasreen Alam, lodged a complaint with the chief executive officer (CEO) health. Upon verification, the authorities confirmed that no such officer was appointed in the area, exposing the suspect as an impostor.
